Making your own nut butter is easier than you might think. Serve it on pancakes or apples for a delicious and nutritious treat for all ages (over 1).
Almonds alone are delicious, but you can use any type of nut or seed, so get creative! Peanuts, cashews and hazelnuts are a delicious combination. Or try mix of peanuts, pecans, and walnuts. Throw in a dash of flax or pumpkin seeds for an added boost of nutrients.
500 g (3 cups) nuts.
Organic maple syrup
Pure organic vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 176 C (350 F). Line a baking sheet with backing paper and spread the nuts evenly in one layer on the pan.
Bake for 10 minutes, stirring halfway. Keep an eye on them to make sure they’re not
Remove the nuts and allow them to cool slightly before mixing.
Mix nuts in a high-power blender until smooth and creamy. If your blender gets hot, turn it off and give it a couple minutes to cool.
Add optional ingredients AFTER nut butter is smooth.
Boil jars in hot water to sanitize.
Fill jars and allow to cool.
Store nut butter in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Tips and Tricks:
Roasting the nuts ahead of time helps bring the nutty flavor out, don’t skip it!
If working with hazelnuts, it’s better to remove the skins after roasting. Simply spread them out over a kitchen towel, cover with another towel, and roll them around with your hand until the skins fall off.
If adding additional spices, first blend the nuts until smooth, and THEN add the spices. Amounts vary according to taste.
