Sugar Scrub Benefits

Washing your hands is an important part of your daily hygiene regimen, but excessive washing can leave your hands dry, cracked, and in need of replenishment. For the most natural and affordable moisturizer on the market, turn to your own kitchen cabinets and make a sugar scrub.

When eaten, sugar doesn’t offer a strong nutritional profile. But using it on your skin is another story. Brown sugar in particular contains properties that make it an exfoliant, cleaner, protectant and moisturizer all in one!

The molasses in brown sugar contains vitamin B – a known antioxidant used for protecting the skin against UV damage. It contains glycolic acid, a natural exfoliant that helps loosen and break down old skin cells. And to top it off, it’s a natural humectant. It pulls moisture from the surrounding atmosphere, transmitting it to the skin. Keeping your hands moisturized and soft.

Sugar Scrub Ingredients

Homemade sugar scrub, can be customised to fit your preferences. We suggest equal parts sugar and oil, but go slow and adjust the ratios to match the desired consistency.

  • 250 ml - Organic brown or turbinado sugar work best.

  • 250 ml - Base oil of choice: Coconut, sweet almond, hemp seed, sesame, walnut and avocado oil all work.

  • (Optional) – A few drops of your favorite essential oil. Note: Before purchasing essential oils, make sure they’re intended for use on the skin.

  • (Optional) – Citrus zest of choice. Lemon, lime, grapefruit or orange add a lovely twist.

  • Wooden serving spoon

Sugar Scrub Instructions

After gathering your ingredients, you’re almost finished! Here’s what’s next…

  1. Slowly mix oil into the sugar, stirring well until the desired consistency is achieved.

  2. Add essential oils or citrus zest to the scrub. Stir until fully incorporated.

  3. Seal the lid when not using. To avoid contamination, use a wooden spoon to scoop out the scrub.

Tip: If you’re using coconut oil: Blend the oil and sugar with a hand mixer. Or, melt the oil over low heat and stir in sugar. Wait until completely cooled before using.
